Why Pallet Stability Matters, And How InnoVent® Delivers Both Stability and Ventilation

Share

When transporting fresh produce, there’s one thing every grower, packer and distributor wants to avoid…damaged loads.

A stable pallet not only helps protect fruit and vegetables during storage and transport, but it also improves handling efficiency, reduces waste and contributes to a safer working environment. However, achieving excellent pallet stability has traditionally meant compromising on ventilation.

The Challenge

Fresh produce such as tomatoes, onions, avocados, bananas and citrus continues to respire after harvest. Good airflow is essential to help maintain product quality, regulate temperature and minimise condensation throughout the supply chain.

Many conventional pallet stabilisation methods, including corner boards and strapping, offer reliable load security but can add packaging waste, increase labour requirements and restrict operational efficiency.

The challenge has always been finding a solution that combines effective ventilation with dependable pallet stability.

A Different Approach

Tama developed InnoVent® to overcome this compromise.

By combining the benefits of ventilated pallet wrap with excellent load retention, InnoVent® helps businesses secure palletised goods without sacrificing the airflow needed to protect fresh produce.

Designed for both machine and manual application, InnoVent® is suitable for a wide range of fresh produce and can also be used for many other palletised products where ventilation and load stability are equally important.

InnoVent consistently achieved pallet stability comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, traditional corner boards and strapping.
Independently Tested Performance

Load stability isn’t something that should be taken on trust.

To validate InnoVent®’s performance, independent pallet stability testing was carried out by Citrus Research International (CRI) together with Stellenbosch University in South Africa. Testing assessed the product against recognised pallet stability methods using lateral acceleration testing in accordance with internationally recognised procedures.

The results demonstrated that InnoVent® consistently achieved pallet stability comparable to, and in some cases exceeding, traditional corner boards and strapping.

Designed for Reliable Load Retention

Several design features contribute to InnoVent®’s performance:

  • Maintains excellent load containment while allowing maximum ventilation.
  • Stretches during application before contracting to help tighten and secure the load.
  • Retains its width when stretched, reducing the number of wraps required.
  • Conforms closely to pallet edges and irregular load shapes.
  • Helps minimise damage to cartons by removing the need for rigid corner boards in many applications.
  • Allows selected sections of the wrap to be opened for inspection without compromising overall load integrity.
Supporting Efficient Operations

Beyond load stability, InnoVent® has been developed with operational efficiency in mind.

Its design helps reduce packaging materials, speeds up wrapping operations and can simplify loading and unloading processes. The wrap also adapts to different pallet heights and works across a wide variety of fresh produce applications.

For growers, packers and exporters looking to improve both productivity and sustainability, this provides a practical alternative to traditional pallet stabilisation methods.

The Bottom Line

Pallet stability and ventilation no longer need to be competing priorities.

With independently verified performance and a design focused on efficiency, InnoVent® provides a modern solution that helps protect fresh produce throughout storage and transport while simplifying pallet wrapping operations.

If you’re looking to improve pallet stability without compromising airflow, InnoVent® offers a practical solution that’s been developed and tested for real world produce handling.
